CROSS-DOCKING & TRANSLOADING

MOVE FREIGHT THROUGH, NOT INTO, YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN

white gradient_edited_edited.png

WHAT IS CROSS-DOCKING & TRANSLOADING?

Cross-docking is the process of unloading inbound freight and loading it directly onto outbound trucks with little or no storage in between - freight moves through the warehouse rather than sitting in it. Transloading is closely related: shifting freight from one mode of transportation to another, most commonly moving an ocean container off at port and transferring its contents into multiple domestic truckloads for regional distribution. Both exist to cut the time and cost of storage out of the supply chain for high-velocity or time-sensitive freight, at the point where speed matters more than warehousing.

We connect your brand with 3PL partners equipped to run cross-dock and transload operations at the volume and speed your freight requires, so product keeps moving instead of sitting on a shelf it doesn't need.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN CROSS-DOCKING & TRANSLOADING

  • Inbound-to-outbound cross-docking — freight received and reloaded within hours, not days

  • Ocean-to-truck transloading — breaking down import containers into regional truckload or LTL shipments

  • Rail-to-truck transloading — shifting intermodal freight to final-mile trucking

  • Consolidation & deconsolidation — combining multiple smaller shipments into one truckload, or splitting one large shipment across destinations

  • Pool distribution — multi-stop regional deliveries built from a single inbound load

  • Retail-ready staging — sorting and labeling freight by destination before it ever leaves the dock

  • Freight visibility & scheduling — coordinated inbound/outbound timing to avoid dock congestion and detention fees

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Importers moving ocean containers that need to become multiple regional truckloads

  • High-velocity brands where inventory turns too fast to justify storage costs

  • Retailers and distributors consolidating shipments from multiple vendors into fewer outbound loads

  • Companies expanding into new regions and needing a relay point rather than a full warehouse commitment

  • Any operation currently paying for storage on freight that's really just passing through

WHY MATCH INSTEAD OF LOCK IN

Not every warehouse is set up to cross-dock - it requires dock capacity, scheduling coordination, and throughput speed that standard storage-focused facilities aren't built for, and doing it inefficiently creates the exact detention and demurrage costs it's meant to avoid. We match your brand with a partner whose dock capacity, location, and carrier relationships fit your freight volume and lanes, rather than assuming any warehouse can run a cross-dock as well as it can store pallets.
